Shelter at The Sussex Contemporary
Delighted to have one of my works titled Wintertrees, oil & graphite on found paper, selected for The Sussex 2026: Shelter.
Wintertrees
As increasingly green spaces are urbanised, we are reminded that nature has the unstoppable ability to
overcome man.
These Wintertrees stand tall and sustain the space between the dichotomy of it all.
Regardless they will continue to provide man shelter, stillness and a definite sense of place.
November 7 - 29
Thursday - Saturday 11 - 4pm
Sunday 11-3pm
Selected from 1,217 entries, the exhibition presents an extraordinary breadth of contemporary practice, from painting, print and photography to sculpture, textiles, mixed media and installation.
SHELTER invited artists to consider what it means to seek, create, inhabit or lose a place of safety. The resulting exhibition explores shelter in its widest sense: home and landscape, belonging and displacement, protection and vulnerability, memory, identity and the spaces — physical and emotional — that we build around ourselves.
THE SUSSEX has grown into one of Sussex Contemporary’s landmark annual exhibitions, creating a space where established artists sit alongside emerging voices and where visitors can discover work they may not encounter anywhere else.
Come and experience the exhibition in person, spend time with the work, discover new artists and see how more than a hundred individual responses come together to tell a much bigger story.
