"Full of soul, a real privilege to see"
Dion has a very strong following and fervently believes that his Open House and his commercial galleries in London and across the UK complement each other, highlighting his professional integrity and commitment to his practice.
Every year, Open House has something a bit different, maybe even unexpected – a showcase of new ideas and concepts straight from the studio, beautifully curated in Dion Salvador Lloyd's own home.
Never knowing who is coming through the door next or why they may be visiting is always fascinating.
Whether the visitor is a passer-by, a collector, an interior designer, a fan, a follower, a friend, a family member, an admirer, a long standing guest, a gallery – everyone is part of Dion's journey as a painter.
Many guests choose to have a complimentary drink and homemade biscuits and stay for a while to appreciate the calm surroundings. The relaxed ambience, the emotion in Dion's paintings and his artistic home subtly encourage openness, honesty and connections.
Dion has the unfaltering ability to welcome each visitor, and when asked will graciously share some of his experiences of being an artist. I am moved when I see a group gathered, completely engaged while listening to Dion. These snippets of conversation are enlightening and often humble.
A painting has a significant relationship with its potential owner and Open House makes this even more memorable. Purchasing a work of art is very special and it is a privilege being involved in what I would describe as 'life moments' with visitors. Each year brings its own unique stories, energies and memories - some happy, some sad, some to celebrate and some just because. No two are ever the same.
His preview has become quite an annual event. Dion sends invites to everyone. Something I have always admired and that guests appreciate. Some even comment that they diarise his private view year after year as they want to be part of it. I applaud Dion as he does not take any of this for granted, always remembering where he came from, appreciating everyone who has ever visited. This ever strengthening him and his practice.
Maybe next May when you are passing, you'll drop in. If you would like more details or an invitation please join Dion's mailing list.
Artists Open Houses is part of the Brighton Festival held annually every weekend and bank holiday in May.
